SwissVPN L2TP setup guide – macOS Sierra v10.12

The option PPTP is not available anymore in macOS Sierra v10.12.

  1. Open "System Preferences" and click on "Network".
  2. Click on the + symbol, select "VPN" as connection and "L2TP over IPSec" as VPN type, enter a service name (e.g. "SwissVPN L2TP") and click on "Create".
  3. Select the just created service ("SwissVPN L2TP") in the listing on the left side.

    Select the configuration "Standard", enter "CONNECT-L2TP.SWISSVPN.NET" as "Server Address", and your User Name (you've received this after completing your purchase, and you can also find it in your receipt e-mail) as "Account Name".

    You may also want to check the "Show VPN status in menu bar"option for easy access to the connect/disconnect command.

    Then click "Authentication Settings...".
  4. Enter your SwissVPN password in the "Password" field, enter "SwissVPN" in the field "Shared Secret" and click "OK".
  5. Click "Advanced...". A new dialog appears – make sure that "Send all traffic over VPN connection" is checked! Then click "OK".
  6. Click "Apply" and "Connect".
  7. You are now connected to SwissVPN!

    To verify that all your connections to the Internet pass through your secure SwissVPN connection, simply visit http://www.swissvpn.net and check the indicator.
